Through the thick fog that obscures the sun, thanks to global warming, Mukwa makes her way through destitute urban streets. She has come from Quadrant 57 (Cree territory) to find the only being who has the power to save humankind – the Witigo. But with time running out the Witigo is Mukwa’s last resort – because the Witigo lives off human flesh. (bravofact.com)
Conceived as part of the Winter Garden Stage to Screen series, this dystopian sci fi film was an absolute blast to work on. When else might we ever get a chance to punch a hole (digitally) through the roof of a hundred year old theatre, or destroy Toronto’s iconic Dundas Square?
We worked with director Danis Goulet and DOP Daniel Grant to plan out the best way to bring Goulet’s post-apocalyptic vision to life. While staying true to the Cree stories that provided the basis for the film, the goal was to create something unlike anyone had ever seen before.
Terrifying, and inspiring, this film hints at a larger world that what we see within the confines of the Witigo’s snowblown lair, and we hope to revisit it someday.
